So let me preface this post with the fact that yes, I am going to training for MYP. I also want to let you know that I am learning quite a bit. So much so that I can hardly see straight when I leave for the day. However, that leaves the evenings open to try and see some of the city. Although most of my photos may have been taken under the cover of night, there are still many stories to tell. The culture is so diverse and there are definite British meets Chinese influences wherever you look. The architecture, the food, just everything. There are very few that you find that can call Singapore their homeland. Nearly everyone is from another place, another time so the entire city feels like it doesn't have one identity. Everyone works and lives within their own spheres and let others do the same. It is still rather shocking to see and hear English in most of the stores and on the streets. I have been in Korea long enough to find that different. Rather than go into great detail on this one blog, I figure it best to give you a list of topics. You can then ask me about them in some other venue or when I get to visit. Just think....I have yet another day here!
1. Having an original Singapore Sling in the Raffles Hotel
2. Mexican food in Singapore
3. Mark the drunken Irishman
4. Cabless in the city
5. UFO's
6. Two americans, a dutchwoman, a brit, and a spaniard were sitting at a table.
7. The cabbie who broke into Born Free (Frank Sinatra version) and of course we all sang along
8. Chewing gum is illegal?
9. Dancers from the world over
10.(Others that I can't think of at the moment)
Okay, so when you visit we want to reserve you for another dinner at our place. And sure, you can bring some guests! Our table fits 6, but we can make sure we can fit 8! :o) But we want to hear some of these stories! Will you be back from Christmas?! I can picture the sing along in the cab, the 2 Americans, a dutchwoman, a brit and a spaniard and you were probably delighted to have some Mexican food. I think chewing gum should be illegal everywhere! Aren't all Irishmen drunk? Is the Singapore Sling a drink? I cooked risotto with Sake the other night instead of wine and thought of you. I made Kung Pow to go along with it. Do they drink Sake there? Totally curious about UFO's though...?
ReplyDeleteHaha! I will be back during the Christmas break. I just think it would be good to do so. This particular Irishman was NOT hard to look at but so not what going to get what he wanted either. He was a charmer though to be sure. I am not sure about the Sake here. They drink Soju in Korea which is a type of whiskey. A Singapore Sling is a drink and it was lovely! Raffles is the hotel where several old hollywood pics were filmed. It looks right of the early 1900's and is just epic and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI've had some drunken Irishman experiences in my past and they did not get what they wanted either, but I have to admit that it did WONDERS for my confidence. It's just nice to feel pretty and desired...
